Volunteers wanted for Mt Pleasant community stall

The Community Centre/Residents Assn. would like to support the Farmers Market by running a weekly stall information stall and sausage sizzle. However we need volunteers to help by offering to do a stint on the stall one Saturday morning in a roster of eight weeks. The stall would not only keep the community supplied with info, make a little money for the centre (let’s face we need all the dough we can get with a big rebuild coming up) but add to the buzz of the market. If you are willing to help please email mtpleasantcentre@xtra.co.nz or phone Linda 384-2160 Cheers.

Ferrymead Bridge update

The completion of the on-site geotechnical work and a better understanding of the variable nature of the ground and rock in the riverbed at the Ferrymead Bridge site has meant designing the new bridge to achieve the new Building Standard is more complex than first expected.

We (CCC) are continuing to work through the issues to finalise the design for the new bridge and now expect this work will be completed mid-September. We are confident of getting a suitable design finalised by this time which will enable us to begin negotiating the construction contract and work programme.

In the meantime, we are proceeding with transferring services from the existing bridge to the temporary structures and completing the approaches to these. Traffic will be diverted onto the temporary structures as soon as work can start demolishing the existing bridge. This is now expected to be in about five months.

Work on the temporary structures, as you will be aware, was planned to be completed last month. However, this work was delayed while we finalised the design for the bridge.
