Mt Pleasant Community Update 4 November 2011
A Coastal Pathway from Ferrymead to Scarborough
Do you support the vision of a cycle/walk way of international standard to be built from Ferrymead Bridge to Scarborough beach, Sumner? If so call down to the Back on Bikes event at McCormacks Bay Saturday 5 November 10.00am – 1.00pm and sign the statement of support. The Coastal Pathway Group is advocating that the provision of such a pathway should be included in Cera’s recovery plans for the Christchurch’s rebuild. Come show your support for this project!
Insurance status round up
Please find below information supplied by local architectural designer Greg Young on the current stance of insurance companies regarding rebuilds. Please note that this information may not be the “official stance” that the insurance companies are taking.
- Medical Assurance – approving rebuilds, allowing designs / building consents to be completed, and offering builders insurance (for their own rebuilds).
- Vero / AA / SIS / AMP – not allowing rebuilds yet, approving drawings to be completed and building consents applied for in preparation of building work
- Tower – approving rebuilds, and allowing designs / building consents to be completed
- Farmers Mutual – approving rebuilds, allowing designs / building consents to be completed, and offering builders insurance (for their own rebuilds)
- AMI – approving rebuilds, and allowing designs / building consents to be completed
- Lumley – approving rebuilds, allowing designs / building consents to be completed, and offering builders insurance (for their own rebuilds)
- NZI / State / IAG – not approving rebuilds yet, not allowing designs / building consents to be completed until rebuilds are approved
The biggest impediments to the rebuild at the moment for companies that are allowing it are the number of houses they have to fix, and whether or not the builders can get contract works insurance.
Even if your insurance company isn’t allowing you to rebuild (unless you’re white or orange zone) due to current modelled “seismic risk”, there is nothing stopping them from allowing you to get your repairs or re-design drawings completed, a building consent processed, and a builder selected and approved. This will allow you to start as soon as possible without further delays.
Make sure that your drawings are completed by someone that has at least a Design License 2 qualification under the Department of Building and Housing Licensed Building Practitioners scheme ( http://lbp.dbh.govt.nz/publicregister/search.aspx ) – note that registered Architects have a comparative Design License 3 qualification under the scheme. The repairs to our homes will be complex, and you need to ensure that they are drawn and managed by people that are suitably qualified and experienced.
I hope this helps – I’ll endeavour to keep the flow of accurate information coming through as I find it pertinent.
