Farmers Market History
The Mt Pleasant Farmer’s market sprang into life only a few weeks after the February 2011 quake. With no supermarkets or local shops to buy food, local resident Tom Davies quickly filled the gap by establishing the market on the grounds of the Mt Pleasant War Memorial Community Centre, 3 McCormacks Bay Road. It has been a great hit with the locals and many further afield ever since.
On the 5 March 2017 the market celebrated its sixth birthday! Tom received a Mayoral Earthquake Award for his services to his community in 2012.
On the 25 July 2015 Tom Davies stood down as Farmers Market organiser to enjoy a well earned rest. The market continues to run under the ownership of the Mt Pleasant community via the Mt Pleasant Memorial Community Centre & Residents Association Inc..
