2018 Long Lunch 4th June
Thursday, May 17th, 2018
The Mt Pleasant Farmers Market is celebrating six years of serving its local coastal community by hosting a Long Lunch on Queens Birthday Weekend. The market sprang into life in 2011, just days after the 22 February quake.

With no water, food or supermarkets available for miles around, local Mt Pleasant resident Tom Davies quickly responded to need and established the market. Six years on the market is still going strong. “While locals tell us they enjoy shopping at the market to buy fresh, locally grown food, the opportunity it provides each week for residents to “bump” into one another while buying artisan bread or a piece of handmade cheese is just as highly valued.” says event organiser Linda Rutland. “We want to establish this event as one way of the community demonstrating its on-going support for the market.”
In the tradition of Long Lunches celebrated by farmer’s markets overseas, the lunch will serve to highlight the wide range of fresh produce available at the market while raising much needed funds for market improvements. Local chef Kris Buist will create a three-course lunch sourced from the very best market ingredients which traders have donated. A team of volunteers will help in the kitchen, wait the tables and provide the music. The lunch will be served within the stunning surrounds of the new Mt Pleasant Centre.
The event is scheduled for Queens Birthday Monday, 5 June from 12.30pm. Tickets cost $45 each and can be purchased from the centres office between 9am -2pm (weekdays) or the markets General Store on Saturdays from 9.30am -12.30pm.
