Shakti Second Hand Sale at the Mt Pleasant Centre Saturday 25th August

Friday, August 17th, 2018

Shakti Christhcurch is a non-profit organisation known for its focus in delivering culturally appropriate domestic violence intervention, prevention and crisis support for migrant and refugee women of Asian, African and Middle Eastern backgrounds.

Shakti Christchurch is dusting off their glad rags and selling off some treasures for it’s inaugral Secondhand Sale.
The Sale is being held at the Mt Pleasant Centre on August 25th, inside the hall alongside the Farmer’s Market. It will be run from 9.30am – 12.30pm. If you’d like to donate some good quality second hand clothes please get in touch with Kathy community@mpcc.org.nz or drop them into the office 9am – 2pm Mon – Fri.

All proceeds from the sale will go directly toward our client expenses – and we’ve got HEAPS this year – driving lessons, legal fees when applying for protection or parenting orders, costs associated with women and their children moving into long term and safe housing, petrol and grocery vouchers so our women can buy the practical things they need to have a fresh start and you know, boring stuff like keeping the lights and heaters on in the safehouse.

All staff and volunteers at Shakti come from the same backgrounds as the people we serve, as it is important to us to build a sense of ownership around issues of domestic violence amongst the community we serve and advocate for. By putting ethnic women on the front line, it enables others to see people like them as leaders, who will initiate and inspire social change within their communities.
